About Dr. Chernick

Dr. Chernick is a graduate of New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a general dentistry internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital College of Dentistry and then served as a dentist in the U.S. Navy. In the early 1980’s, Dr. Chernick was an assistant professor of dental materials at New York University. In 1990 when the field was in its infancy, Dr. Chernick became interested in Oral Appliance Therapy for treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea and began seeing patients and working with researchers on the development and use of a number of oral appliances. He is on the staff of both Nyack Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital Sleep Centers. He is a member of the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and in 2001 passed his Boards in Oral Appliance Therapy. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Chernick still maintains an excellent practice in general dentistry with emphasis on family and cosmetic dentistry, dental materials and all phases of prosthetic dentistry including implants. He was a founding member of the Rockland County Implant Study Club. He was president of the Rockland County Dental Society, 2004-2005 and served on the Board of Governors of the Ninth District Dental Association component of the New York State Dental Association in 2006.

Dr. Chernick has lectured widely on Dental Sleep Medicine at both Nyack and Good Samaritan Hospitals as well as across the country. He has lectured and given seminars as far away as Taiwan. In October 2010 he was a featured speaker on Oral Appliance Therapy at the 1st Annual Meeting of the New York State Society of Sleep Medicine. He teaches OAT in the Continuing Education Program of the 9th District Dental Association. Dr. Chernick holds the position of Research Associate Division of Biomechanical Engineering at Cooper Union in Manhattan.
